CASE 1 - School Water Main Break
A 3 inch water main break occurred in a lower mainland school on New Years Eve 1999. The damage to the school was significant. A parking lot was damaged and the hallways and cafeteria was flooded. More importantly, no one knew where the break occurred, the extent of the failure or where to find contractors who could expediently and effectively perform the repairs. The client's staff were currently busy repairing two other breaks and consequently overloaded. Roger Johnson Consulting had a crew and equipment heading to the site within 5 minutes of the call. On site, Roger Johnson met the facility manager and they prepared the work plan. The water break was exposed within two hours at a depth of ten feet. The line had corroded and needed complete replacement. Roger Johnson Consulting Limited supervised the project proceedings as the external contractor excavated, shore, tunneled, jack hammered, removed interior floor slabs, saw cut, and core drilled through excavated wall footings in advance of the soldering crews. This joint operation using facility staff resulting in the work being done in record time with the school opening up on schedule with water service.
